ABSTRACT

Immunodulation refers to a process and a course of action in which an immune response is altered to a desired level. Immunomodulation is generally used to describe the pharmacological manipulation of the state of activity of the immune system. Immunomodulators either make an increase or decrease in the magnitutude of immune response. The oil bean seed was purchased, some partwere fermented and the other part unfermented for further study with respect to the rats. The control received feed and water, group 1 (unfermented group) received feed, water and a gavage administration of pyrogallol solution with dose volume of 0.39ml. Group 2(fermented group) received feed, water and gavage administration of pyrogallol solution with dose volume of 0.41ml. All administration was done daily for ZSdays after which the rats were sacrificed using standard protocols and blood samples collected for biochemical assays. Ten female wistar albino rats were used for this study and fed vital growers mash and water daily. The rats were further grouped into three groups. From the results obtained, it can be observed that in the groups treated with fermented Pentaclethra macrophylla there were significant (P< 0.05) increases in the value of WBC, Platelets, PCV, GPx, GSH and Secondary antibody concentration when compared to the normal and it can also be observed that in the positive control which was treated with only pyrogallol, there were significant (P< 0.05) decreases in the value of RBC, PCV, CAT, GSH and Secondary antibody when compared to the normal. There was also observed changes on administration of either fermented or unfermented due to its medicinal benefits.
