Evaluation of Soil Fertility in An Agroforestry Farm in Ikwuano L.G.A Abia State:- Umeh Iruoma B.
ABSTRACT
The study was carried out to evaluate the
soilfertility status in an Agroforestry Farm in Ikwuano Local Government Area
Abia State, Nigeria. To determine its suitability for agro forestry. Soil
samples were takenfrom different spots within the study site at a depth of 0 -
30cm, then bulked together and twelve representative samples were taken out
ofit. Core samples were also taken to the study site and used to collect
samplesfor the determination ofbulk density. The samples were bagged and properly
labeled. Each sample was air-dried before taken to the laboratory for analysis
after being sievedwith a 2mm sieve. The differentphysical and
chemicalproperties ofthe soil were determined. After the laboratory process,
the results ofthe analysis were subjected to statistical analysis using anova.
The result revealed that the soil had a bulk density rangingfrom 1.29g/cm3 to
1.35g/cm3, a total porosity of 48.56g/kg, a hydraulic conductivity ranging from
38.75cm3/min to 47.00cm3/min, a moisture content rangingfrom 11.37% to
12.88g/kg, a sand content ranging from 88.93% to 91.18%, a silt content ranging
from 2.56%> to 3.56%>, a clay content rangingfrom 5.26%> to 7.28%, a
productive base Saturation, a soilpHfrom 6.26 to 6.87
