ABSTRACT
Liver
function enzymes were evaluated using methanol/methylene chloride extract of
Alchornea cordifolia in CCL$ induced hepatotoxicity in wister albino rats. Six
(6) groups of 4 rats each: were treated with I 00mg/kg, 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg
methanol/methylene chloride extract of Alchornea cordifolia with normal
control, vehicle control and negative control respectively. However the result
indicates that ALT activities in liver were significantly (p<0.05) highest
in negative control rats when compared with nonnal control and other
experimental groups, rat treated with methanol/methylene chloride extract of
Alchorea cordifolia compared well (p>0.05) with control value in their liver
ALT activities. The liver AST activities were significantly (p<0.05) raised
in negative control rats when compared with normal control and other
experimental group. The ALP activities in liver were significantly (p<0.05)
highest respectively in negative control rats when compared with nonnal control
and other experimental group. The liver total proteins were significantly
(p<0.05) highest in the control rats and lowest in the negative control than
all other experimental group. Methanol/methylene chloride extract of Alchornea
cordifolia indicated the ability to ameliorate the adverse effects of
CCL.i-induced Liver damage and could therefore, be recommended as an effective
natural product for the management of liver disease.
