ABSTRACT
This study focused on the Effects of Training on
Organizational Performance of five Oil Multinational Corporations in South-South
Nigeria. The study sought to determine the effect training on organizational
performance in the oil MNCS in South-south Nigeria, assess the effects of
training on the performance of IvINCs in South-South Nigeria, ascertain the
factors militating against employees training in the oil MI'/CS in South-south
Nigeria and determine the relationship between training on organizational
performance in the oil MNCS in South-south Nigeria. The study employed both
primary and secondary sources of data to collect information from the
respondents. However, data were collected through a well-structured 5 point
Likert Scale questionnaire distributed to 342 (three hundred and forty-iwo)
employees of these five oil multinational corporations such as Royal Dutch,
Shell, Chevron, Exxon Mobil and Agip comprising both senior and junior staff
Out of the above questionnaires, 329 (three hundred and twenty-nine) were
retrieved and 13 (thirteen) respondents were either on annual leave or out of
the office during collection. Furthermore, the study employed SF55 Z-test and
simple linear regression was adopted to test the hypotheses of the study. The
result from the Z-test showed effect of training and organizational
performance. The value of the Z-statistic was 1.94421 which is less than 2. The
value of 2 indicates "agree" to the research objective, the sample
mean is .3214 which is larger than the population size, with p-value of. 03875
< .05 significance level. This implies that Training has signflcant effects
on organizational performance in the oil MNCS in South-south Nigeria. The
result from the simple linear regression analysis showed a sign fIcant value of
0.011 which is less than 0.05 which shows that there is signIcant relationship
between training and organizational performance in the oil MA/CS in South-south
Nigeria. The researcher concluded that training f properly harnessed and
implemented would yield positive results in terms of productivity and
organizational performance. In line with the above resolve, the study recommended
that oil multinational corporations in Nigeria should allocate appreciable
amount offund to the training of their employees on continuous basis. This is
to maintain the match between job requirements, individual characteristics and
abilities with regard to technological innovations that will enhance
organizational performance.
