ABSTRACT

Information  is  indispensable  for  the  success   and  the .    survival  of  any organization.     Accounting  information form the bulk of information requirement   in  making·  management  decisions.       The  extent  at  which accounting  information  will  be produced-depend     on the proper usage of accounting   system. The   study   is·.·.~p.tered    on  the   Effectiveness   of Accounting Systems _in  the running ofsmall and medium scale industries in Abia State. The study carries out an evaluation as to whether the small-scale industries can operate successfully for a relatively long period of time in the absence of any accounting system. The study also reveals how Auditing and investigations  can  help  to  reveal  the  errors  and  inconsistencies  in  the financial statement produced from the accounting system in other to enable a true and fair view of the business position  at any point in time.   The study also makes recommendations  on how· to  revert the negative trend of the industries not using accounting systems by making recommendations to 'the accounting regulating bodies in Nigeria  such  as the embark on a massive training programs for such industrialist  in other to enable them realize full, the usefulness of accounting systems intheir various establishments .
