Effect Of Taxation On Total Revenue Of Nigeria (2007-2016) A Study Of Federal Inland Revenue Service
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the effect of taxation on total revenue of Nigeria. The
main objective of the study is to assess taxation as an alternative to the dwindling revenue in
Nigeria. However, the research designed employed was ex post facto research design. Data were
sourced from secondary sources. Analyses of data and testing of hypotheses were done through
the aid of statistical tools such as tables, and multiple regression model. The population of the
study consist of the entire Federal Inland Revenue Service in Nigeria as a whole, it studies from
2007 to 2016. The findings from data analyzed indicates that taxation measured by company
income tax, petroleum profit tax, value added tax and personal income tax sofiware has
significant effect on the total revenue in Nigeria; the study however revealed that value added
tax has the most significant effect on total revenue that it is a continuous process and therefore
the researcher concludes that every organization should comply with tax authority to ensure that
total revenue is revived and the government and relevant tax authority should block loopholes
and also put up measure to block tax evasion.
