Effect of Tax and Non-Tax Revenue on Economic Growth of Nigeria:- Agbedion, Blessing I.
ABSTRACT
This
study assessed the effect of tax and non-tax revenue on the economic growth of
Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were to determine the effect of
tax revenue on Gross domestic product and evaluate the effect of non-tax
revenue on Gross domestic product of Nigeria. Ex-post facto research design was adopted. Secondary data were
collected on both tax revenue and non-tax revenue as well as on the gross
domestic product from the FIRS and CBN statistical bulletin from 1980 to 2021.
Simple regression was used to analyze the hypothesis formulated and from the
analysis, the summary of findings established that Tax Revenue has a
significant effect on economic growth of Nigeria and Non-Tax Revenue has a
significant effect on economic growth of Nigeria. Based on the outcomes, the
study recommended that Government should transparently and judiciously account
for the revenue it generates through petroleum profit tax, Custom and Excise
Duties and Company Income Tax as well as value added tax by investing massively
in the provision of infrastructural facilities and efficient accounting system
to articulate and report the exact funds which the government earns from oil
and other non-tax revenues.
