ABSTRACT

The study investigated effect of sustainability reporting on performance of listed firms in Nigeria. It  extracted  data from the audited  financial statements of the sampled firms annual from 2010 to 2016 based on availability of data. The study adopted the ex post facto  research design and used sustainability development cost and firm size as proxies for sustainability reporting while return on assets, return on equity and liquidity were adopted as proxies for performance  of the firms.  The validity test carried out showed the absence of auto correlation. The results revealed that sustainability development cost has a significant effect on return on assets, return on equity and liquidity.  The study concludes that there is existence of long run relationship between sustainability reporting and performance of firms in Nigeria. It therefore recommends that firms in Nigeria  should invest reasonable amount of  their  earnings  on  sustainability  activities  while  specific  accounting templates be articulated by professional accounting regulating bodies such as the financial reporting council of Nigeria (FRCN) to guide the way and manner firms report their activities .
