Effect of strategic content learning on achievement and interest in biology concepts in owerri municipal local government area of Imo state
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to
investigate the effect of strategic content learning on students' achievement
and interest in biology concepts. The influence of gender on achievement and
interest was also investigated. Four research questions and four null
hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The design was quasi
experimental that employed a pre-test, post-test nonrandomized equivalent
groups, involving one experimental and one' control group. A total of 73 SSII
students in two react classes drawn from two co-educational schools in Owerri
municipal Local Government Area of lmo State made up the sample for the study.
Two instruments developed, validated a;d used for data collection are Biology
achievement test (BAT) forms I and U and biology interest scale (BlS). The
strategic content learning on biology lesson plan were developed and used on
the experimental group. Data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard
deviation. Results showed that a significant difference exists between the
achievement of students taught with strategic content learning method and those
taught with conventional method. The study recommended among other things that
biology teachers should be trained with the relevant skills on the use of
strategic content learning method in teaching biology.
