Effect Of Pig Manure On Growth And Yield Of Mungbean (Vigna radiata .L. wilczek) In Umudike
ABSTRACT
A study was conducted to determine the effect of different
levels of pig manure on growth and yield of rnungbean (Vigna radiate. L.
Willczek) in Umudike — a humid forest zone of Nigeria. 0, 20t/ha, 4Otlha and
60t/ha of pig manure was applied to one Asian vegetable Research and
Development centre (AVRDC) Mungbean accession sown in randomized complete block
design in research field of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike
from march to April 2006. There were improvement in the vegetable characters
including the plant height and number of days to flower. A significant
difference existed in yield and yield component of plant witi. those applied
with 20t/ha giving the highest yield of 1 .2tlha. This was followed by 60tTha,
40t/ha and Ot/ha. The conclusion is that mungbean has shown good response in
growth and yield and yield component with the applicant of pig manure to
warrant further trials
