Effect Of Mergers And Acquisitions On Performance Of Private Sector Organization In Nigeria (A Case Study Of Bank PHB, Uba Banks In Nigeria)
ABSTRACT
The study is on "effect of mergers and acquisitions on the
performance of private sector organization in Nigeria". In other to
enhance the study, the researcher explained the meaning of
mergers and acquisition, types, relevance, pitfalls and the effect
of mergers and acquisitions which public and private companies
face as a result of their merging with others. As there different
companies in Nigeria both public and private, so there are
various motives, benefits, and reasons for the combination of
firms. Such reasons are business expansions, diversifications
and growth among others between platinum bank plc , Habib
bank plc and UBA Bank, standard trust Bank. The following are
our summarized fmdings: 1. there are motives for platinum bank
and habib bank plc. 2. There are benefits associated to the
merger and acquisition of platinum bank and Habib bank.3.
Investors are getting increased dividends since UBA Bank and
Standard Trust Bank merger. 4. The performance of PHB plc is
better than their performance before their merger. The use of
empirical test and analysis were applied in testing the hypothesis
and analysis of the effect of mergers and acquisitions in private
companies using platinum bank and habib bank Plc and also
UBA Bank as case study. In conclusion, the researcher
recommend that companies can still go into mergers and
acquisitions by specially knowing the benefits and the effect of
mergers and acquisitions on performance of private sector
organization.
