ABSTRACT

Nigeria has 46,300km? of coastline (Gulf of Guinea) and jurisdiction of about 210,900km2 over its coastal water (exclusive economic zone). Despite the availability of these water and land, Nigeria’s fish production annually is approximately 600,000 metric tonnes but the country’s demand is 2 million metric tonnes. Aquaculture contribution to fish production in Nigeria is about 6% (NIOMR, 2010). This project effect oflayer manure on the mortality rate of oreochromis niloticus is a five chapter work. Chapter One is the introduction, sources and impacts of pollution on aquatic ecosystems, impacts of fertilizer pollutants objectives of the study. Chapter Two is literature review, taxonomy of oreochromis niloticus, diagnostic description of cichlidae, natural distribution and habitat, ecology and physiology of oreochromis niloticus, the biology of oreochromis niloticus, culture techniques, reproduction, history of domestication, water quality parameters, dissolved oxygen, water temperature, hydrogen ion concentration, Effects of pH on freshwater fish, and water Hardness. Chapter three is the materials and method, experimental location, experimental design, experimental procedure, test concentration media, procurement of broodstocks, acclimation of broodstocks, monitoring water quality parameters, and data collection.
