ABSTRACT

 The study was designed to determine the effect of hydro alcoholic extract of Amaranthus hybridus on nitric oxide and malondialdehyde level of thioacetamide intoxicated wistar rat. For this purpose, 36 male wistar rats were divided into 6 groups (n=6). Group (1) intoxicated with thioacetamide and treated with silymarin; Group (2) healthy control with no intoxication and treatment; Group (3) intoxicated with thioacetamide and treated with hydro alcoholic extract of Amaranthus hybridus at dose of (lOOmg/kg); Group (4) intoxicated with thioacetamide and treated with hydro alcoholic extract ofAmaranthus hybridus at dose of (200mg/kg); Group (5) intoxicated with thioacetamide and treated with hydro alcoholic extract of Amaranthus hybridus at dose of (400mg/kg); Group (6) intoxicated with thioacetamide with no treatment. The liver MDA content of rat in Group (6) which is the negative control was significantly (p<0.05) higher than other group, and the liver NO content was significantly (p<0.05) lower than other groups. This study indicates the valuable effect of Amaranthus hybridus antioxidant agents against oxidative stress induced by TAA.
