Effect Of Gallic Acid On The Kidney Function Of Candida Induced Candidiasis In Wister Rats:- Akabueze, Ifunanya P
ABSTRACT
Gallic
acid (3,4.5 trihydroxybenzoic) acid is a secondary metabolite present in most
plants. This metabolite is meant to exhibit a range of bioactives including
antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory and anti cancer. There are
various methods to analyze gallic acid including chromatography, spectrometry
and capillary electrophoresis among others. They have been developed to
identify and quantify this active ingredient in most biological matrices .
Studies of gallic acid and its derivatives have exhibited its potential for
combating oxidative damages, cancer manifestations; and microbial infestations.
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of gallic acid on kidney
function ofCandida induced candidiasis in albino rats.Group 1; rats served as
the normal control having access to feed and give them water for a period of 14
days, group 2 serves as Candida control, group 3 serves as positive control
(Candida + Ketoconazolc(50mg/kg B.W). group 4 serves as test control (Candida +
gallic acid(500mg/kg B.W), group 5 serves as positive control(Candida +
ketoconazole(50mg/kg B.W +500mg/kg).The result showed that the group that
received gallic acid had a significant decrease in creatinine when compared
with the Candida group. In conclusion, treatment with gallic acid had better
assessment' on the kidney than kctoconazole.
