In this study, the effect of dietary incorporation of Garcinia kola seed meal on the serum lipid profile of albino rats were evaluated, the proximate content and the phytochemical content of Garcinia kola were also determined. Twenty male wister albino rats were assigned into 5 groups of 4 rats each. Group (1) control was fed on normal growers feedGroups (2) and (3) received 5% and 10% incorporated Garcinia kola respectively, while Groups (4) and (5) were fed with 20% and 50% incorporated Garcinia kola respectively. After four weeks of feeding with diets incorporated with Garcinia kola,the rats were sacrificed.The serum of the blood was used to carry out lipid profile tests. The analysis showed that Garcinia kola has the ability to moderatety reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol thereby reducing cardiovascular diseases.Proximate content of Garcinia kola shows that Garcinia kola has 92.6±0.79,7.4±0.79,1.48±0.01,2.94±0.01,3.19±0.01,4.39±O.O1 and 80.5810.82,for Dry matter,moisture content,lipids,crude fibre,protein,ash and carbohydrate respectively. Phytochemical analysis also showed that Garcinia kcla contains 5.075±0.021,0.93±0.028,5.1250±0.672,25.3600±O.014 and Li .275WT0.'l 45,for Tann in(%),Flavonoid(%),Alkaloid(%),Saponin(mg/kg) and Cynnogenic glycoside(ppm) respectively.This study shows that Garcinia kola cnold he eliective in the management of cardiovascular diseases.
