ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between dividend policy and share price with a focus on oil and gas companies listed in Nigeria stock exchange market. For this purpose, a sample of 19 companies of oil and gas listed in Nigeria stock exchange were selected and the relationship between share price volatility which measured on dividend per share, earning per share, dividend yield and payout, were examined by applying simple regression for a period of five years from 2011 to 2015. The study adopted the ex-post facto research design which investigates the impact of dividend policy on share market prices of oil and gas of listed companies on the Nigeria stock and exchange. The empirical results of this study review that the estimated coefficient of the regression parameters have both positive and negative signs and thus while some conform one does not conform to our a-priori expectation. Based on finding it is worthy note that dividend policy has a great impact on the share market price of public quoted companies of oil and gas sector of economy. Therefore, Firms should try all their possible best in improving their total earnings from each transaction year. Again strives to formulate a dividend policy that ensures continuity and stability in dividend payment as this has impacts on the value of the firm etc.
