Effect Of Corporate Governance On The Profitability Of Quoted Oil And Gas Companies (A Study Of Total Nigeria Plc)
ABSTRACT
In this research work, chapter one dealt with the introduction, the background of the study, the
statement of the problem, hypothesis, objective of the study etc. The objective of the study is to
determine the effect of Corporate Governance on the profitability of oil and gas companies
However, chapter two dealt with the literature review of different authors, textbooks and related
/ournal were reviewed. The chapter three focus on the research methodology use, the research
designed employed was descriptive and survey research design. Data were sourced from primary
sources through the adoption of questionnaires and annual reports of Total plc. Analyses of data
and testing of hypotheses were done through the aid of statistical tools such as tables, correlation
and simple regression model. In chapter four, the researcher analyze the data gathered from the
questionnaires, Return on Equity and Return on Assets and The findings from data analyzed
indicates that Corporate governance has signIcant effect on the profitability of oil and gas
companies under the studied company; Corporate governance measured with board size foreign
directors, non-executive director, director 's equity interest and corporate governance disclosure
has a significant effect on the profitability of the oil and gas companies. The researcher concluded
that corporate governance is essential in the profitability of oil and gas companies.
