ABSTRACT
The study investigated on the effect of 2010 civil service reforms on the
performance ofpublic office holders in Nigeria. The objectives of the study are;
to examine the duty of trust placed on the public officers in Nigeria since 2010
Civil service reforms, to examine the extent to which these officers render their
stewardship to the citizenry since 2010 Civil service reforms and to examine
the effect of legal framework for the performance, policies and Monitoring of
public accountability in Nigeria since 2010 civil service reforms. To achieve
the objectives of the study, survey research design method was adopted. The
researcher adopted primary data in getting the required information. The
population of the study is made up of 158 respondents while the sample size is
made up of 113 after adopting Taro Yamane formula. However, a total 113
questionnaire was administered to the respondents. In testing the hypotheses,
analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used. The findings revealed that Public
officers have not lived up to expectation of trust placed on them by 2010 civil
service reforms. The findings further revealed that Public officers render their
stewardship to their citizenry as stipulated in 2010 civil service reforms. The
researcher recommends that Public officers should endeavor to maintain the
trust placed on them by civil service reforms. That would help in enhancing the
performance of public accountability in Nigeria. The researcher further
recommends that government should time to time monitor the activities of civil
servants to ensure they are working towards the achievement of sets goals and
objectives of 2010 civil service reforms.
