ABSTRACT

The study investigated the economics once marketing in Ahakahh Local Governement area of Ebonyi state. The broad objective of the study was to anakze the economics of rice marketing in the area under study. \Vell structured questionnaires were used to collect primary and secondary data from three communities randomly selected in Abakiliki L.G.A. Purposive and randomized sampling techniques were used to collect data From the marketers. The data collected were analyzed using simple statistical techniques like percentages, tables and averages as well as descriptive methods and regression analysis. From the findings, the socio economic characteristics of' the marketers had effect on the income from rice marketing, the marketing channel moves flow the producers to the processors, then to the wholesalers and retailers and finally to the consumers. This order was found to be avoided by some marketers as they buy from peoples and places of preference. The result of the study showed that rice marketing in Ahaki Local Government Area is profitable and that there was inefficient use of resources. Consliuinis at FICO marketing were identified to include lack of capital, storage problem, and high cosm at ratispuriation, lack of facilities and unavailability of products. It was recommended that efforts should be made by Government and Non- governmental organizations in encouraging rice marketing through provision of loaiis, improving social amenities awareness programmes for the marketers as well as supporting  research institutions  to improve on rice varieties.
