ABSTRACT
Adolescence is a critical period
of development in which individuals acquire greater autonomy. This period is
also characterized by accelerated physical growth arid psychosocial and
secondary sexual development. The study design used was a cross sectional study
of the dietary pattern, physical activities and anthropometric status of
adolescents attending day secondary school in Igbo-Etiti local government area
of Enugu state. The study population consists of Adolescents attending day
secondary school in lgbo Etiti local government area, Enugu state. A
multi-stage sampling technique was used to select the study sample. In the last
stage, 62.8 students were randomly selected from each school. The
anthropometric measurement (height, weight of the respondent) was obtained
using height meter and bathroom scale respectively. Weight and height was used
to calculate their body mass index (BMI). The body circumference such as waist
and hip circumference were also measured using non stretchable measuring tape.
Waist and hip circumference was also used to calculate waist-hip ratio.
Utilizing a multi-stage sampling technique, socio-demographic/economic
characteristics, dietary pattern, physical activity and anthropometric status
were assessed through questionnaires and physical measurements. The data was
analyzed with international business machine (IBM), statistical package for the
social sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. The findings revealed that a majority of
respondents were between 15-17 years of age. The respondents (93.2%) were
Christians and only 52.8 % of the respondents' mothers earned
