Development Of An Operational Planning Model For A Brewery Industry (A Case Study Of Golden Guinea Brewery Umuahia, Abia State)
ABSTRACT
In this project, a production plan for Golden Guinea
Brewery, Umuahia was developed. The company is into the production of four
different products namely Golden Guinea Lager, Oldberg Lager, Golden Guinea
Malta and Oldberg Malta. The concern of the management of the company is to
know how to allocate available scarce resources to the different products.
Requisite data collected through documentation and interview with various
resource persons of the company were used to develop a linear programming model
representing the problem of the company. From the data obtained, a model
covering a production plan design, estimate of material requirements and
quantities of products to be produced per month was developed. The results
obtained show that the company should stop the production of Oldberg Lager,
produce 20000 units of Golden Guinea Lager, 48000 units of Golden Guinea Malta
and 60000 units of Oldberg Malta. This plan will yield a profit of ₦6,948,000.
This research work shows that linear programming technique is a veritable asset
in production decision-making not only for Golden Guinea Brewery, Umuahia but
for other manufacturing industries.
