ABSTRACT

The research looked at Some Selected properties of Mucuna Slonei (Ukpo) Seeds, which includes Physical and Thermal properties such as Axial dimension, Sphericity, Surface area, Bulk density, Solid density, Bulk porosity, Volume, Moisture Content, Angle of repose, Thermal Conductivity, Specific heat and Thermal diffusivity, which are essential in the design and construction of the processing and handling equipments of the seeds. The physical properties were investigated at Moisture content of 1 5. 16% (Wb) and also its relationship with Angle of repose were analyzed using statistical analysis (Correlation). All the physical properties measured showed some deviation from the mean values which is typical of Agricultural biomaterials. Porosity showed the highest deviation of 97.64% while Sphericity showed the least deviation with 11.18 Standard deviation when compared to that of other Physical properties. The Angle of repose was obtained at 52.810. The Thermal conductivity using Lee's Method showed that at a steady temperature of 35°C al-c 0.1479w/rn °C and the Specific heat for values above and below freezing were 1.345 and 1.028KJ/Kg °C respectively. The Thermal diffusivity varies when the Specific heat is above and below freezing
