ABSTRACT

Water supply pipeline network was design for Ibagwa-ani community in Nsukka local government area Df Enugu State. This design was done to help in providing or making water easily available to the community since there was overhead reservoir built by the government years back with no distribution network. It will also help to transport the groundwater from one area to anoiher with appropriate quality, quantity and pressure so as to encourage personal and household cleanliness. The following data were obtained from the community during survey: latitude of 6°54'7"N and longitude of 7°20'19"E, total inhabited land mass of 62 hectares and elevation of 87.lfl with green site, population estimated 15,340 according to 2006 census, number of villages (62) and detailed map of the community which was used in knowing the roads and streets for the pipe laying design. The result of the design showed that to supply 16000 litres of water using the design distribution network, the minimum static head, maximum static head, flow velocity, main pipe area, sub-main pipe area, lateral pipe area and pump flow, volume required are 5.5m, 9.3m, 87.90m/s, 0.0079m2, O.00384m2, 0.00 125m2and 2500m3respectively. Government should as a matter of policy ensure adequate funding and monitoring of water distribution projects and revamping of the dilapidated water infrastructure across the country.
