Design And Implementation Of A Prison Management System (A Case Study Of Nigerian Prison System)
Abstract
The Nigerian Prisons are fast
becoming an immerse embarrassment and a national scandal; the prisons are
largely filled with inmates awaiting trial or charges are yet to be filed
against them. The Criminal Justice System of the country is so backlogged that
at least /+th of its prison population consists of pretrial detainees rather
than convicts. The Nigerian Government has on numerous occasions stated its
willingness to reform the Criminal Justice System; despite many commissions and
committees recommending reforms, the recommendation has not been implemented.
This constitutes part of the need for this research work. The paper based
method of information management is observed to be the major part of the sorry
state of the Nigerian Prison and after several analysis of the system, a new
system was proposed. This computerized based system is designed using the
Microsoft ~~ . ยท Visual Basic 6.0 and Microsoft Access Database; the system
would be able to aid easy and fast retrieval of information. It would be able
to keep prisoners details, load prisoners pictures, provide accurate details of
trial dates and court sessions, provide reports for administrative purposes,
store a large number of records and safe keep them for future retrieval.
