ABSTRACT
A beverage food drink aluminum can crusher was
designed and developed. l'hc process involved considered the forces and
ergonomic factors [or peoples use. After design calculations were done,
materials of appropriate engineering properties were selected. Machine parts
such as pulleys, lever arms and electric motor were fastened to the frame using
nut and bolts while other parts cut with speed cutting machine to required
dimensions were welded directly or indirectly to the frame of crushing machine
using arc welding machine. l'he machine is Can specific in operation. Selected
Can samples including Amsiel malt ('an. Bullet energy drink, Star beer and
Environ health drink Cans were used i, test the machine for crushing
efficiency. Results obtained showed that Star beer ('an with length of 114mm
and diameter of 65mm was reduced in volume by 63.6%. Amstel malt Can with
length of 114mm and 65mm was reduced in volume by 64.5%, Bullet energy drink
Can with length of 132mm and diameter ol' 50mm was reduced by 68.3% and Environ
health drink Can with length of 132mm and diameter of 50mm was reduced in
volume by 68.6%. The efficiency of the machine was calculated by average
percentage reduction in volume of all sampled Cans and found to be 66.24%. The
machine is efficient in crushing all beverage food drink Cans within the
dimensions of 132 114mm length and 65 — 50mm length. With the help of this
design, aesthetic improvements can be implemented to improve the machine
efficiency using a longer connecting rod and incorporating electronic
components.
