ABSTRACT

An automatic change over display with micro controller is designed to switch electric current from main power source to an alternative power supply (generator) without human intervention. The purpose of this project is to maintain constant supply to the main circuit that is being supplied by making-up for the time lapse or delay that usually accompanies the manual switching from one source to another. The major component in this construction is the microcontrollcr which is a small computer on a single integrated circuit containing processor core, memory and programmable input/output peripherals. The microcontroller turns ON and OFF the generator set, changes output to the load from commercial power supply to generator output or from generator output through a 12V relay. If there is no power supply present the circuit automatically starts kicking the generator set, to try the generator three times. If the generator does not start after three attempts, then the circuit will assume there is a fault on the generator, which will require the user to restart the generator set. The circuit displays an error messages if there is a fault on the generator, either from starting the generator set, and sudden stopping of the generator set. The result for this construction is to successfully switch electricity from the main power supply to the alternative power supply. In conclusion, the construction helped the author to know about automations.
