ABSTRACT
A total of eighty (80) day-old
unsexed boilers of the Anak strain were procured from a commercial hatchery.
The experimental design was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). A total of
four diets having percentage crude protein which ranged between 19.00% and 20.35%
and caloric densities of 2743.60 and 2764.30Kcal/Kg were formulated. Maize and
maize offal were the major energy sources, while Danish fish meal, soya bean
meal, blood meal, local fish meal and rumen wastes were the major protein
sources. Diet I , designated the control, contained no local fish meal, blood
meal or rumen wastes while diets 2, 3 and 4 contained local fish meal, blood
meal and rumen wastes respectively 0f all the performance parameters considered
during the trial, only the mean final body weight showed significant difference
(P<0.05). The birds led diet 3 gave the highest mean final body
weight (685g), closely followed by the birds fed diet 4 (677.50g). Birds fed
diet I gave the least value (632.50g). The mean daily feed intake and the mean
daily weight gain of the birds showed no significant difference (P>0.05).
The test ingredients are comparable, and from the fore going, any of them can
be used as substitutes for Danish fish meal which is expensive and often
unavailable.
