4 survival and growth of the Financial Institutions. The study aimed at assessing the
efficacy of debt management on banks performance. Also to determine if debt
management have ettect on the protitability and examine the relationship between
interest income and bad debt of the Banks. Secondary data were used for the study.
Simple regression analysis was used in testing the hypotheses. From the study
findings are that debt management does not affect the performance of banks since
banks has others means of earnings other than advancing credits. However,to
maintain high interest income, attention needs to be given to credit risk
management. The study recommends that banks should ensure that loans given
out to customers should be adequately reviewed from time to time to ccesc th
level of its risk. Such loan should be backed by collateral security.
