ABSTRACT
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L)
Walp) (2n = 22) is a tropical herbaceous annual legume that belongs to the
family fabaceae. Several authors reported different areas as its centre of
origin. Cowpea is said to have originated from West Africa due to the presence
of its wild forms (Aliko et al., 2013) from where it spread to other countries
of the world (Timka et al., 2007). Today, cowpea is widely cultivated in West
and Central Africa.
