ABSTRACT
The chemical constituents of the leaves of
Alchornea cordifolia was studied. Phytochemical screening of the leaves
extracts revealed the presence of Alkaloids (1.22%), flavonoids ‘L r

ferruginea. The mineral constituents were calcium (1.60%), magnesium (0.55%),
potassium, (0.20%), sodium (0.40%), phosphorus (0.71%), iron (69.00%),
manganese (18.00%) and zinc (135.75%). Bridelia ferruginea leaves were found to
be rich in vitamins comprising riboflavin (0.16mh/100g), thiamin (6.08mg/l00g),
niacin (1,26mg/l 00g,) ascorbic acid (34.32mg/100g). The proximate composition
revealed the presence of proteins (2.50%), Ash (7.80%), carbohydrate (52.02%)
and food energy (329.90g/cal). The antibacterial assay showed inhibition
against proteins mirabilis, pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli,
klebsiella pneumonia, and staphylococcus aureus. These results authenticate the
use of the plant for the treatment of infection and disease in Nigeria.
anthocyanidine 7-0-p-D-diglucopyranoside was isolated from the leave extracts
of A. cordifolia. The mineral constituents identified in the plants were
calcium (1.80%), magnesium (0.67%), potassium, (0.58%), sodium (0.18%),
phosphorus (0.43%), iron (140.50%), manganese (8.25%) and zinc (85.75%).
Alchornea cordifolia leaves were found to be rich in vitamins comprising
riboflavin (0.26 mg/lOOg), thiamin (6.18mg/100g), niacin (0.24mg/100g),
ascorbic acid (28.16mg/l00g). The proximate composition revealed the presence
of proteins (18.99%), ash (4.80%), carbohydrate (65.91%) and food energy
(354.90g/cal). The antibacterial assay showed inhibition against proteins
mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, klebsiella Pneumonia, and
Staphylococcus aureus. The chemical constituents of the leaves of Bridelia
ferruginea was also studied. Phytochemical screening of the leaves extracts
revealed the presence of Alkaloids (1.46%), flavonoids (1. 84%), tannins
(0.50%), phenols (0.06%) and saponins (1.69%). A 4' propen x The chemical
