ABSTRACT
The effects of cassava cyanide on the
malonaldehyde levels (lipid peroxidation status) and on some biochemical
parameters were live. rats fed from 28 days with cassava diet contain no 3 and
10% protein supplement respectively. The analysis of the urinary cyanide and thiocyanate
of the test groups showed a statistically significant decrease 0.05) when compared
with that of the control. lie urinary cyanide after 28 days were 6.33 and I . 1
8 ( tg/L) for the low and the high protein groups respectively while their
urinary thiocyanate were 3.04 and 1.09 .(gg/L.) after 28 days respectively.
Elevated malonaldehyde levels by 7.64% and I 1 .76% (after 28 days) from the
low and high protein groups respectively when compared to that of the control
was observed. there was significant decrease in the serum albumin and protein
with Concomitant decrease in body weight of' the test groups within the period
of investigation.
