Assessment Of Level Of Information And Communication Technology Literacy And Utilization Of Secondary School Economics Teachers
ABSTRACT
ICT is a "mind tool" to
both teachers and student yet there is a poor performance by student in
economics as a subj etc. This study was spurred by the concern of finding out
if actually ICT is being utilized in the teaching of Economics by teachers. Out
of these. 15 teacher respondents (83.3%) and 370 student respondent (92.5%)
were actually used for this study making it a total of 385 respondents which
were used as data for the study. The data collected was analyzed using mean and
frequency statistics. The findings reviewed that the level of ICT literacy of
secondary school economic teachers in Umuahia North Local Government Area are
still low, ICT are not effectively utilized by senior secondary economic
teachers in Umuahia North Local Government Area in teaching economics and that
economic teachers in Umuahia North Local Government Area are faced with a lot
of challenges which are hindering the effective utilization of ICT in the
teaching and learning of economics. The researcher conclude that these was
obtained because majority of the teachers have not undergone any training on
ICT yet and the available facilities are not effectively utilized. The
limitation of the study were pointed out and suggestions for further study in
the area were also pointed out.
