Assessment Of Body Compostition, Nutrient Intake And Food Consumption Pattern Of Bankers In Umuahia, Abia State.
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to assess Body Composition1 Nutrient intake and Food Consumption Pattern of Bankers In Umuahia, Abia State. One hundred and twenty bankers were randomly selected from different banks in Umuahia town. Background characteristics and other informations were determined using questionnaires. Body composition was determined by anthropometry alongside with dietary intake. The mean bodyweight and height of male bankers were 75.3±12.6kg and 1.70±9.56m, while that of female bankers were 69.6±11.2kg and 1.66±0.17m. BMI values for male and female bankers were 27.9±4.05 and 26.1±4.08kg respectively, but female bankers had higher percentage body fat (30.3±O.3°Io) than I males (29.9+0.9%). Other body composition parameters determined included lean body mass optimum body weight, body water, skinfold thickness and arm muscle diameter. Both male and female bankers exceeded their energy requirement. Carbohydrate was significantly correlated with body weight (P<0.05). Garri and rice was highly consumed on daily basis, ranging from 50°h and 60.2% of the respondents respectively. >
