ABSTRACT
The study Assessed Beneficiaries' Utilization of
Infrastructure in Abia State Community Based Poverty Reduction Project in
Umuahia North and Bende IGAs of Abia State; Nigeria. SpecificaUy, the study
described the socio-econornic characteristics of the participants in the
project, ascertain the infrastructure provide in the benefiting communities
through the assistance of ABCPRP, determine the beneficiaries' level of
utilization of the infrastructure, determine the level of involvement of
beneficiaries in maintenance of the infrastructure and also identifies the
problems militating against the use of these infrastructure by the beneficing
communities. The study used both primary and secondary data. One Local
Government Area from each of the senatorial zones, Abia North and Central zones
were chosen. A total of 120 copies of questionnaire were distributed to
respondents for the study. Data were collected using purposive and random
sampling techniques and were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentages
and mean. The inferential statistics used was multiple regression (probit
model). The result showed that 46.7% of the respondents are adults within the
ages of 36-45 years. Similarly, 96.7% of the respondents are educated. Majority
of the respondents who participated in the project of ABCPRP were members to
community based organizations. The study also revealed that sex, income,
membership of community based organizations and marital status were significant
at 5% level of probability, respectively. The result also show that marital
status was negative but significantly related to community utilization at 5%
level.
