Adoption Of Improved Snail Production Technologies By Farmers In Umuahia South Local Government Area (L.G.A) Of Abia State.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine adoption of improved snail production technologies in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. Data used for the analysis were collected with the aid of a structured interview schedule. The respondents comprised of one hundred and fifty (150) farmers who were randomly selected. Descriptive statistics such as frequency tables, percentages and ranking were used to analyse the data collected. The results showed that over 30% of the respondents adopted half of the recommended improved technologies. The sampled farmers identified the problems facing them. The problems include disease incidence, poor market, feeding, lack of finance, lack of input, insect/pest attack and predators. It was recommended that the Government should ensure prompt delivery of agricultural inputs to snail farmers. Added to this, Government should ensure that loans are given to snail farmers at a low interest rate.
