Appraisal Of Standard Costing Techniques And Variance Analyses In Manufacturing Companies (A Study Of Partson Zochonics, Pz Industries Plc, Aba):- Emeka Otuechere
ABSTRACT
The
resources available to any organization is limited and the little that is
available is expected to be utilized effectively so as to achieve the
organizational goal. In the process towards achieving this aim, the
organization employs some of the control Instrument like budgetary control,
standard costing and variance analyses. In view of this, this research project
is aimed at ascertaining whether the application of standard costing together
with its variance analyses is a good system of control in manufacturing
companies. With this in mind, the researcher narrowed down his work thus, using
PZ industries Pic, Aba as a study. The research work also tried to give in
details, such areas covered by standard costing and variance analyses such as
setting of standard costs, establishment of cost centre, effective reporting
system, investigation of variance, reasons for variance etc. Through the help
of related literature review. The data used in the study were obtained through
interviews, using structured questionnaires and from critical review of
published and unpublished reports, documents and texts. The three (3) research
questions were formulated to guide the testing of the three (3) hypotheses
formulated with the help of a twenty six 26 item questionnaires that were
distributed to the management and staff of the organization under study in
order to obtain data for the successful .outcomes of this work. The responses
obtained were analyzed using simple arithmetic percentages and the chi-square
technique. It was based on this that the decisions were made regarding the
hypotheses.
