ABSTRACT

 The crude extracts of Aloe vera gel and lef were assayed in vitro with the aim of determining and evaluating its antimicrobial activity on the selected lest organisn1s. Etlimml ·und hol waler (aqueous) were used as solvents for extraction. 'The test organisms used Were Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The ethanol extracts had higher inhibitions on all the test organisms and gave better minimum inhibitory concentrations than the aqueous extracts. The dry gel had high inhibitions on all the test organisms than the fresh gel and green leaf; inhibitions were higher in Gram negative organisms, followed by gram positive organism and then fungi. The study revealed that . Aloe vera plant extracts was susceptible to all the test organisms. This result supports the ethnomedicinal use of Aloe vera for the treatment of various ailments.
