Anti-Oxidant, Anti-Bacteria And Anti-Fungl Activities Of Senseviera Liberica (Ger. And Labr.) On Pathogenic Isolates:- Onuoha, Udodirim

A
plant based diet reduces the risk of development of several chronic diseases.
It is a fact that antioxidants contribute to this production. The present
investigation was based on the assessment of the ethanolic extract of
Sansevieria liberica on pathogens isolated from clinical samples using standard
microbiological techniques and also to access the prestated role of different
phytochemicals in the antioxidant activity of the plants. Ethanolic extract of
S. liberica were investigated to evaluate radical scavenging effect by nitric
oxide scavenging activity, anti-lipid peroxidation activity and DPPH radical
scavenging activity. The IC50 for nitric oxide yield 99.90 ±0.00 at 500mg/ml,
for anti-lipid peroxidation 9297 ± 1.21 at 250mglml, but for DDPPH, the results
were less when compared with the standard, meaning that an increase in
concentration is required for the extract to be more effective. For its
antimicrobial activity, the results at different concentration (2000, 1000,
500, 250, 125 mglml) of the ethanolic extract. The discs containing 2000mg
showed the highest mean ~ SD zones of inhibition against the clinical pathogens
while the discs containing 125mg showed the lowest inhibiting zones. The
results obtained from this research implies that ethanolic extracts of S.
liberica could be useful in the treatment of the infections and for scavenging
free radicals and its effectiveness increases with increase concentration.
