ABSTRACT

The objective  of the study is to ascertain the impact of accounting standards disclosure on the  accounting practices  in Nigeria.  The problems identified     is   that     non-adherence  to    accounting standards disclosure could be one of the  major  problems  of most corporation's failure  are lack of understanding of the standards by users  and  the   non-applicability   of  disclosure  requirement  by business. Data for  this  study  were obtained  through  primary  and secondary sources. The data collected were analyzed using simple frequency table  and  hypothesis  stated  were  analyzed  using  chi• square test. Results obtained from data analyzed showed that disclosure of  accounting standards has positively   influenced accounting practices  in  Nigeria,  that  accounting standards have not  led  to  proper  disclosure of  accounting information  in  the annual  financial   report  of  companies, that  shortcomings  in  the statement  of  accounting standards does  not  affect  accounting practices  in Nigeria. In  view of the  above this  study  recommends that  in order  to  improve  accounting practices in Nigeria,  there  is need for proper disclosure and adherence to accounting standards and that  the users of these accounting standards should be called upon from time  to time  to give their  own opinion of shortcomings in the already  existing  accounting standards so that  amendments  can be made to the standards making  it more applicable.
