An Empirical Assessment Of Audit Committee Effectiveness On Risk Management Of Listed Deposit Money Banks In Nigeria
ABSTRACT
This study examined the empirical assessment of audit committee effectiveness on risk management oflisted deposit money banks quoted in the Nigerian stock exchange. This research covers the assessment of audit committee effectiveness on risk management of listed deposit money banks (DMBs) quoted by the Nigerian stock exchange from the period of 2008 to 2017. Access bank pie, First bank plc, Fidelity bank plc, Guarantee trust bank, United bank for Africa plc and Zenith bank plc were drawn as a sample size out of the banks listed on the Nigerian stock exchange. The dependent variable is loan to deposit ratio (LDR) used as a proxy of risk management while the independent variables are audit committee composition (ACC) and audit committee size (ACS) used as a proxy of audit committee effectiveness. These variables were used to assess audit committee effectiveness on risk management using E-VIEWS 13.0 statistical tool. One of the major findings through the regression result presents that audit committee size and audit committee composition both have a significant impact on the risk management of listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study therefore, recommends that risk should be properly assessed so as to increase the quality of corporate reporting among listed deposit money banks in Nigeria and listed deposit money banks form a risk management committee to assist in oversight of risk function
