An Appraisal Of Revenue Generation Among Local Government Councils In Nigeria (A Case Study Of Ikwuano Local Government)
ABSTRACT
Revenue generation is the nucleus and path to modern development. For a local
government to survive, it has to establish a sound financial base. Local government
is the third tier of government and the closest to the people. J3ut ]t. is unfortunate to
lote that the local government management have not lived up to the expectation to
provide basic social amenities to the rural people. The aim of this research
herefore is to investigate into the problems of revenue generation in Abia state,
;pecifica!ly in Ikwuano Local Government Area. This study aims at ascertaining
he attitude of revenue collectors in achieving the organizationa objective, In the
'esearch methodology, questionnaire was used as my primary data, and was
dministered directly. Secondary method of data collection was also used to
nerate the needed data. Chi-square would be used as my data analysis technique.
conclusion, the local government should transfer hack resources of revenue
eneration from private hands to local government treasury. :jiiall/ the local
government should establish revenue generation committee in the local
government to help in the monitoring and evaluation unit. By doing so, the
people's interest would be geared towards giving their support to the local
government which will lead to the development of rural areas.
