ABSTRACT

A second data generated from a project carried out by Dr. I. Okwujiako of the Biological Science department of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture was used to investigate the effect of differing water potentials of the growth medium of mushrooms on their vegetative growth. The significahce of the treatments and water potentials was investigated using analysis of variance. And multiple comparism was used to sharpen the result. From the analysis, the treatments, water potential and their interaction were found to be significant. The result also shows that Pletirotus squarrosu/us give a higher yield than P/eurotus tuber-regiun7 and that Glycerol is to be preferred as treatment to KCL and PEG 6000. Also, an osmotic potential of zero (0) gave the optimum yield.
