Uses And Gratifications Of Library Electronic Information Resources And Services Among Lecturers In Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Nigeria:- Amogu Uma K.
Abstract
The focus of this study was to investigate the
uses lecturers of Abia State Polytechnic, Aha put the institution's e-learning
resources and the satisfaction they derive from the facility. The study adopted
case study research design. Four research objectives and questions were
formulated to guide the study. The population of the study comprised lecturers
in Abia State Polytechnic, Aha. No sample was used because the researchers used
the entire population. Respondents cut across the jive schools and twenty seven
departments of the institution. Instrument for data collection for the study
was structured questionnaire and interview. 35 I copies of questionnaire were
administered on the respondents electronically, with a response rate of 323
(92%). Simple percentage, frequency counts and mean values were used for data
analysis. while the research questions formed the basis for data analysis.
Results from the analysis of data revealed that lecturers in Ahia State
Polytechnic, Aha, used e-library resources and services occasionally and for
various reasons such as availability of Internet, constant electricity,
research activities. among others;. Quite a number of them never used the
library e-resources and services; most of the lecturers of the institution who
used the library e-resources were satisfied, while few of them were not
satisfied. The study therefore recommends that library management should
increase Internet access in the library through increased and dedicated
Internet bandwidth; increased enlightenment of the lecturers on available
resources and benefit derivable; and, increased provision of library
e-resources among others.
