Use of Information and Communication Technology Resources for Information Dissemination at National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria :-Onyenachi, Joy C .
Abstract
The study was on survey of
Information and Communication Technology Resources for Information Disseminational
National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike Abia State. The descriptive
survey research design was adopted/or the study. Data was collected through the
use of questionnaire; a sample of 102 adult users were used for the study;
descriptive statistical tools mean and standard deviation were used for data
analysis. Findings revealed that Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), audio
and video and Electronic databases resources were not available and so not used
in dissemination of information in the library of NRCRI Umudike Abia State.
Challenges include epileptic power supply, none availability of online
databases, no Internet connectivity, lack of appropriate technical skills, no
skilled JCT staff lack. Based on the findings it was recommended that the
library management should provide: Networked computers with fast Internet
connectivity and wide bandwidth; Online database in the library for patrons;
Steady electricity; Recruitment of competent JCT staff Be organizingformal
training and retraining in JCT and Internet use for library staff
