Abstract
Gender-based
violence (GBV) is one of the most oppressive forms of gender inequality, posing
a fundamental barrier to the equal participation of rural women in social,
economic, and political spheres. It has also the extreme expression of unequal
gender relations in society. Gender-based violence is a violation ofhuman
rights, and a global health issue that cuts across boundaries of economic
wealth, culture, religion, age, and sexual orientation.Covid-19 pandemic on the
other hand is creating an enabling environment to perpetuators of GBV in
Nigeria especially against rural women farmers. This opinion base piece is
therefore proposed the role information professionals in public libraries
towards the eradication of this menace among rural women farmers where majority
of them are victims. Acquisition and Accessibility of GBV Information
Resources, Creation of Awareness through Conferences and Workshops, User
Education, Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI), Subscription of
Government Document, Information Repackaging, Transforming GBV information into
oralform, Use ofPosters and Hand Bills and Use of advocacy etc.
