The Teaching Of Use Of Library By Non-Librarians And Effect On Students: The Case Of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.:- Amogu, Uma K
ABSTRACT
The paper assessed the teaching of "Use
of Library" by non-librarians in Abia State Polytechnic, Aba. The study
adopted the Case Study Research Design, while the sample consisted of 385
students drawn from a population of 3500 ND1 students in the four schools of
the institution. The study used questionnaire as the instrument for data
collection. The questionnaire was built on a 4-point Like rt scale type of
measurement Data were presented ii tables and analysed using criterion mean of
2.50. The result of the study shows that use of library course is taught in the
polytechnic, but not as a course of its own. Students do not have adequate
knowledge of use of library because the course is not well taught, being taught
by non-librarians. The researchers therefore, recommend among other things that
the teaching of use of library in Abia State Polytechnic, Aba should be handled
by professional librarians.
