Abstract

The purpose of this research work is to identity the roles financial institutions play in export financing in Nigeria.- Inadequate financing of export activities was the problem that led to this research study. The hypotheses were as follows: Hoi funding of exports activities by banks does not significantly ielate to the exporters demand for fund each year. H02 the cost of fund does not significantly relate to the level of credit (loans and advances) given to exporters by banks. The researcher applied correlation coefficient to carry out test of hypothesis and analyze data. Based on the result of our tests, the following findings were made: which the commercial banks give to exporters to carry out their exporter to carryout export activities each year. Significantly related to exporters demand for fund each year. The cost of funds does not affect the level of credit given to exporters by commercial banks. Buyer’s credit, factoring, government financing, personal saving and retained earning are other means by which export can be financed apart from banks. Commercial bank financing more preferable for export because it takes care of both the preexport financing and post-export financing: the following recommendations are made: since it has been discovered that cost of fund doesn’t actually affect the level of credit which banks give to exporters, more funds should be made available to the exporters by these banks to increase their output. Government should make better policies which can be achievable for the benefit of export business. To reduce over dependence on oil - exporters financially and otherwise to help them improve. More firms and individuals should be encouraged to join export business so as increase the level of export trade in Nigeria
