The Prevalence Of Cryptosporidiosis Selected Grouis Of Animals In The Livestock Unit Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Umudike (June - July, 2001)
ABSTRACT
The
prevalence study was focused on the relationship between the disease and
different groups of animals, sex and age. Of the 241 animals used for the study
23 (9.54%) were infected. Analysis of the results showed that the prevalence
rate, varied from one group of animal to the other. The prevalence was highest
in pig (21.74%),followed by sheep (17.24%), broiler (9.1%), and goat (6.1%),
whereas rabbits were not infected at all. 'I'he result showed that the
prevalence of the disease is related to age. Younger animals were found to be
more infected than older ones. This is because in some groups of animals,
immunity is developed after previous infection. Futhermore, in all cases both
sexes were equally infected.. Findings showed that the disease was of low
prevalence . However, control should be launched to eradicate it from the area.
