ABSTRACT

 study investigated the impact of fiscal policy on economic growth of Nigeria. Ouring the period of 1981-2017. This study was carried out against the ackground of crucial role that fiscal policy can a play to influence the erformance of the economy. One of the problem statement of this study was that Policy makers are divided as to whether government expansion helps or hinders economic growth. Advocates of bigger government argue that government programs provide value "pubic goods" such as education and infrastructure they also claim that increases in government spending can boost economic growth by putting money into people's pocket. Proponents of smaller government have the opposite view. The study also examined the impact of budget deficit, government revenue and government expenditure, to achieve this objectives, multiple regressions were used in analyzing the data. This regressions include unit root Jesting, OLS estimation, statistical test and test for autocorrelation. The empirical results shows that budget deficit, government revenue and government expenditure is not statistically significant to Nigerian economic growth. Due to this, some recommendations were made which include There is need for an improvement in government expenditure on health, education and economic services, as components of productive expenditure, to boost economic growth. The government has to put in place effective debt management strategies. This is to ensure that all public debts are directed towards the purpose for which they are applied for
