ABSTRACT
Freshwater invertebrate fauna are invertebrate animal found
in and around a freshwater pond, lakes, reservoir, and stream e. t .c (Alfred
et al 1973). Most are wholly aquatic and live in habitats that dry temporarily,
although a few forms spend their lives partly in water and partly on land
(Pennak 1989). These invertebrates could either be of microscopic forms
(zoopiankton) or seen with an unaided eyes as in macro invertebrate
(Pennak,1989). These aquatic fauna cannot synthesize their own food; they can
be primary, secondary, or even tertiary consumers and must obtain food by
shredding. filtering, grazing and gathering and preying (Cuip el al, I 982).
They have the ability to clean rivers and streams as they utilize lie organic
and detritus matter through their functional feeding habits (Ctilp ci. al I
982).Macro invertebrates for instance can be detrivores (feeding on dead plant and
animals found at the bottom of the water),or herbivores (eating plants and
algae), and carnivores (eating othei' smaller animals) (k(lmondson 1959).
